Group Names for Tech Terms

April 3rd, 2008 : Carrie Downing

Any lover of words invariably goes through a phase of trying to learn all of the group names for various animals. You know the obvious ones:

a school of fish
a flock of birds
an army of caterpillars
a pride of lions

And the not so obvious ones:

a troubling of goldfish
a trip of goats
a wake of buzzards
a battery of barracudas
a parliament of owls

Perhaps it’s a bastardization of the English language to take this concept and apply it to something other than animals, but I was trying to come up with a name that describes a group of links. And then…of course… I couldn’t leave it at just that. Imagine the possibilities.

a litter of links
a class of coders
a detour of domains
a fathom of FAQs
a bandy of blogs
a pettifog of bloggers
a fret of frames
a crowd of keywords
a library of laptops
a presumption of pages
a sepulcher of servers
a scrawl of scripts

Anyhoo, stay tuned for the upcoming Link Litter posts.

    A clutch of keyboards.
    A menagerie of mice.
    A tickle of tabs.
    A pompous of programmers.

Actually, I think it would be more likely to be a Collection of coders.

    How ’bout:
    A Quiver of Passwords?
    A Shame of Crashes?
    A Tyranny of Pop-ups?

Oooo, those are good. Especially the quiver of passwords.
