Last week, Adobe officially announced the release of AIR - Adobe Integrated Runtime. My December post on the power and integration of AIR only scratched the surface of what it is capable. In fact, it may have only tilted some heads and failed to communicate the potential of the new technology…

To refresh, AIR is a cross-operating system runtime that allows developers to use their existing web skills to build applications that can deploy just like any other desktop application (Photoshop, MS Word, iTunes, Solitaire). These applications can be created using Flash, Flex, HTML and AJAX, or all of the above.

In short, it’s pretty awesome. If you haven’t already, head over to Adobe and download the AIR application installer. My next post will probably require it.
